Three LEYC Laser lads competed in the Connaught Laser Championship at the week end and there was much praise for LEYC host of the previous Ulster event.
The Connaught Championship on June's last week end, had over 70 boats, same as Mayday weekend’s Ulster event at LEYC. Saturday calms gave just two races at Galway Bay Sailing Club in Oranmore, followed by fair winds for Sunday’s three races for fleets separate by sail type to suit crew age. In the Radial sail fleet, 30 boats, Ali Ghareeb emerged 10th overall. His best results were two tenths. In the 4.7 rig fleet, 17 boats, Ashraf Ghareeb was eleventh overall, his best a second place. Both lads are in the RYA Youth Squad. Fionnan Martin was fourteenth in 4.7 fleet, best a seventh place.
At this first Laser gathering since the Mayday event at LEYC, Evelyn Ghareeb, Youth Co-ordinator was pleased with how many in Oranmore asked her to take back thanks to LEYC for its well organised Ulster event, afloat and ashore, young sailors cared for in good facilities, and adults enjoying LEYC’s good food.
