Click to view photograph in full scale.Webmaster, Michael Clarke and rightly so has press ganged me into writing a piece about the Yeoman fleet - the first for 2009. With 40 races and two weekend regattas under our belts so far, my only excuse can be that I have been far too busy sailing.

The first (in my membership) weekend, two day, Autumn Regatta went off well. There were 8 participants from the Yeoman fleet with 2 active boats not sailing due to those other un-moveable commitments. It is very difficult to do everything all the time.

(See the Yeoman report, results and prizes within the website’s main Autumn Regatta report)

Well done to Declan Fox coming back from Canada to take part. Just to rub it in guys it was a most enjoyable regatta. Diaries all round next season.

This year has seen the most welcome return of Ken Wilson at the helm of Paddy Joe crewed by Edward Beattie. The fleet is starting to get organized with regular crew appearing in the form of Teresa O’Hare crewing for Richard Smith in Growler and Marcian Walas crewing for Alex Knowles in Thief of Time.

On board Nelly Kelly, Brendan Gallagher and Ruth Richey have been turning in very respectable results and are a team who are constantly improving and worth keeping a close eye on. In Jeriatrix and Jorvik, they have been winning cups in J/24 club racing, and did well at the National J/24 event on Lough Ree.

We have also had invaluable visits from twice-Irish National J/24 champion Michael McCaldin sailing in various boats but most often spotted in Joe Kelly’s Dipper. Since Michael sailed with Alex Knowles we have seen increased incidences of expert covering on the beats.

At the time of writing, there are three weekends left in our sailing calendar and if the Autumn Regatta is anything to go by its going to be a lot of fun. Remember race starts 5:30 pm on Saturdays and at 3:00 pm each Sunday.
